On March 7, 1912, Bloomington Fire Department Firefighter Maurice Luby died from a heart attack while in performance of his duties at a fire.
Engine house No. 5 received the call to George Koch’s home at 1402 North Morris Avenue. Luby grabbed a ladder off the engine and was making his way towards the house, when he suffered a heart attack. Captain Fitzgerald caught Luby before he hit the ground.
Luby had served with the Bloomington Fire Department since 1890.
