On October 30, 1981, Captain Thomas Harry of the Springfield Fire Department suffered a fatal heart attack in the line of duty.
Harry worked a 24-hour shift that ended on the morning of October 30 and that included two working fires. After returning home, Harry went to bed, where he suffered a heart attack. Harry’s wife found him unconscious and an ambulance was called, but efforts to revive Harry were unsuccessful.
