On July 13, 1917, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter William J. O’Brien of Engine 22 was fatally injured in the line of duty while fighting a garage fire on Baton Street. O’Brien suffered gasoline burns and was treated at Alexian Brothers Hospital, but he died from his injuries on July 15.
