On April 25, 1916, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Warren Howe of Truck 11 was fatally injured in the line of duty when he fell on his axe while fighting a fire on Cottage Grove Avenue. Howe died from his injuries later that day, and was survived by a widow and four children.
