On December 25, 1914, Chicago Fire Department Captain Edward Phelan of Truck 29 was fatally injured in the line of duty while responding to a fire on North Cicero Avenue. Phelan suffered a skull fracture when Truck 29 was struck by a streetcar at the intersection of Lake Street and Waller Avenue. Phelan was treated at St. Anne’s Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on December 28.
