On May 7, 1955, Chicago Fire Department Lieutenant Martin Walsh of Engine 46 died from injuries he suffered in the line of duty six weeks earlier. Walsh had been seriously injured when he fell during an incident at the intersection of 93rd Street and Baltimore Avenue on March 17. Walsh died at St. George’s Hospital due to a blood clot, and his funeral mass was held on May 10 at St. Dorothy’s Church.
