On September 25, 1954, Firefighter Clarence Kent of the Richwoods Township Fire Department died in the line of duty while responding to a fire. Kent was fatally injured after he was thrown from a fire truck that overturned after colliding with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of North University Street and Route 150 in Peoria. Kent was transported to St. Francis Hospital, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Four others were injured in the crash.
A full-time employee of Caterpillar, Inc., Kent was survived by his widow and four children.
