On December 23, 1997, Assistant Chief Brian Thomas Hauk of the Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection District was killed in a car accident while responding to a fire alarm in Hanna City, Illinois. At around 5:15 p.m., Hauk responded to the alarm from his home and was traveling on Illinois Route 116 in his personal-owned truck when another car failed to yield to his flashing lights. Hauk swerved to steer clear of the other vehicle and successfully avoided a major collision, but he lost control of his truck. Hauk’s truck swerved into the median and back onto the road, before tumbling into a ditch where the vehicle turned over several times, causing Hauk to be thrown from the wreckage. Members of the Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection District responded to the accident and tried to resuscitate Hauk with no success. Hauk was pronounced dead at the scene by the Peoria County Coroner at 6:45 p.m.
