On September 8, 1928, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Mark D. Cronin of Squad 5 died in the line of duty while responding to a fire alarm. Cronin was killed when he was thrown from a fire rig at the intersection of 75th Street and Dobson Avenue.
Funeral services for Cronin were held at Our Lady of Peace Church, and he was interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
