On December 7, 2022, Maroa Countryside Fire Protection District Fire Chief Larry Peasley suffered from cardiac arrest while on duty.
Peasley was at the fire station and dressing out to respond to a call for mutual aid by Clinton Volunteer Fire Department for a structure fire when he suffered from cardiac arrest. CPR was performed, and he was transported to the hospital where he remained until he died on January 4, 2023.
Funeral services for Peasley were held at the Maroa United Methodist Church on January 10, 2023. He is buried at Maroa Cemetery.
Peasley had worked for the Maroa Countryside Fire Protection District for 43 years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
