On April 7, 2020, Firefighter Mario Araujo of the Chicago Fire Department died in the line of duty from complications of COVID-19 after being exposed to a patient with the virus while on duty.
Funeral services for Araujo were held at the Theis-Gorski Funeral Home on April 13, and he was buried at Montrose Cemetery.
Araujo had been a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department since 2003, spending most of his career at Truck Company 25.
