On May 23, 1976, Captain G.D. “Mac” McIntyre of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District suffered a fatal heart attack in the line of duty while returning to quarters following an emergency response.
A member of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District for twenty-four years, McIntyre was the civil defense director for the Village of Algonquin and the assistant civil defense director for McHenry County. McIntyre worked for thirty-seven years as a station agent for the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company.
He was survived by his widow, three children, two grandchildren, and his father.
