On July 1, 2010, Lieutenant Frank William Fouts V of the Kankakee Fire Department died in the line of duty.
Fouts worked a 24-hour shift that ended at 7AM on July 1, and six hours later he collapsed from a fatal heart attack while at his home in Bourbonnais. He had responded to three incidents, including one medical call and two fire suppression alarms, during his last 24-hour shift.
Funeral services for Fouts were held at St. Joseph Church in Bradley on July 6, and he was survived by his widow and two children. Hundreds of firefighters from throughout the United States participated in the funeral procession.
A member of the Kankakee Fire Department for twelve years, Fouts had authored a paramedic’s manual for the department.
